Poetry WebQuest
Grade: 7th
Subject: L.A.
Curricular Goal: Students will examine variety of poetic forms and write one poem to
publish on the World Wide Web.
Introduction:
You are a famous poet, but you haven't written a poem in a long time that
made you any money. Your publisher thinks you need get out of the stone ages and
publish your work on the World Wide Web. If you do that, more people would have
access to your poetry and they will go out and buy your next book (if they like your
poem). In order to save yourself the trouble of getting a full time job, you need to
sell a lot of copies of your next poetry book.

Task:
Your task is to choose a form of poetry, choose an effective poem , and
get it published on the web (including a advertisement for your new book so you can afford
food for your family.

Process:
To accomplish this project to your publisher's
standards, you must accomplish the following tasks:
1. Find and record examples of the following
styles of poetry: free verse, diamante, Haiku, quatrains, cinquain, limerick, and
acrostic. Make sure you indicate your source in a bibliography format.
2. Choose one poem from your poetry booklet, and revise it so it is
publishable.
3. Publish your work on a site in the World Wide Web.
4. Include an advertisement for your new book of poetry that will help you
sell more books.

Evaluation:
You will be evaluated on the following areas:
1. accurate examples of each of the above listed types of poems
2. successfully publishing at least one poem on the World Wide Web
3. creating an appealing advertisement to to accompany your published poem
in order to sell your book.

Conclusion:
When you completed your project, you will earn respect and approval from
your publisher, family, and peers. You also will expand your understanding of the
uses of technology related to writing. You will also be able to stop shopping for
clothing at second-hand stores and garbage picking will no longer be a weekly family
activity.
