Balloon Around The World
Grade: 2
Subject: Social Studies
Curricular Goal: identify and label the continents and oceans on a map or a globe
Introduction:
Congratulations! You have just won a hot air balloon trip around the
world! Your trip will begin now! In order to successful navigate your
way around the world you will need to carefully read the information guide. At the
end of the trip you will win a special prize if you bring back the questions answered
correctly. As you are floating around the world make sure you look down below! The
aerial view is great! What land formations do you see? Do you recognize them
or are they a mystery to you? What ocean are you floating over? Can you see
the bottom? Do you think it would be fun to take a quick dip in the ocean? Pay
close attention, you will need to find the answers to these questions and more to win your
prize! Have fun! To begin, follow your tasks! Up, Up and
away we go!!!!

Task:
When you return from your trip you will be surrounded by reporters. The reporters
will be anxious to hear about your travels. You will not only need to tell the
reporters about your travels, but you will also need to show them where you have
been. Make sure you have your world map labeled with the names of the seven
continents and four oceans ready to show!

Process:
Your teacher will assigned you travel buddies for this adventure.
1. Read the information under land forms about continents. Read the
information carefully and then take the continents quiz.
2. Using the information you read, answer the questions pertaining to the
continents.
3. Next, go to water formations. Read the information carefully about the
oceans. Then take the ocean quiz.
4. Using the information you read, answer the questions pertaining to the oceans.
5. Using the blank map of the world, label the seven continents and four
oceans. Bonus points!!! Draw the equator.
