Emperor Project
Grade: Freshmen
Subject: World History
Curricular Goal: Roman Emperors

Introduction:
It is 400 AD and you are a citizen of the
Roman Empire. The days of the Pax Romana are long gone and the Empire is
falling apart all around you. A well known medicine man has found a small
vial of a potion which can bring dead bodies back to life. There is only
enough potion to bring one body back to life, maybe two if used sparingly.
The Roman government has decided the best use for this medicine would be to
bring back one of the great leaders of the Roman past in an effort to save the
Empire. The problem is, which leader? - There are so many great leaders of
Rome from the past. The government has decided to have an open election
among all of the citizens to determine who they should bring back to life to
save the Empire.

Task:
You have been chosen by the government (as an educated
student) to educate the citizens about one of the past leaders. It is your
job to make a poster which can be hung all around the Empire to tell people of
the good deeds of your leader and why they should vote to bring him back to save
the Empire. In addition, you must write a 3 minute campaign speech which
you will present to the citizens of the Empire to persuade them to vote for your
Emperor as well.
Your poster should include the
following information:
simple biographical information about the leader (including a picture).
a list of accomplishments of the leader.
a list of events which happened during the leader's reign
reasons why the citizens should vote for you leader.
anything else which you think is important.
who the leader's running mate would be (Vice President) (optional)
Your speech should include both of the following:
persuasive campaign speech
must be between 2 1/2 - 3 minutes.

Conclusion:
After having completed this unit, you can be expected to have
learned a great deal about two or more of Rome's Emperors. Now that you've
heard a presentation about everyone's candidate, pick the one that you think is
most qualified to lead Rome out of chaos. You can't choose your own
candidate. You must choose based upon what you heard from the other
presentations. Cast your vote in the form of a 5-8 sentence paragraph that
outlines your reasons for choosing that candidate.
-or-
After hearing all these presentations, do you think that
any of these emperors would make good presidents in 21st century USA? Why
or why not? Write your opinion in a 5-8 sentence paragraph.
