OOPA HOOPLA
IT'S A GREEK PARTY!

Grade:  6th
Subject:  Social Studies

Introduction:
You are a Greek aristocrat.  You are going to throw party.  If you make this party a success, the governor of your city-state will hire you as his personal party planner.  You will need to think of who will be on the guest list, what type of food you will serve, what type of clothing you and your guests will wear and the entertainment you will be providing.

Task:
Your task will be to research information on life in Ancient Greece in order to be an authentic Ancient Greek party planner.  You will be searching for information on the Internet and applying what you learn to your final project.  You will need to:

            • create a guest list of at least four famous Greeks to invite to your bash.
            • devise an authentic menu of Ancient Greek foods you will serve your guests.
            • provide a description of the costumes you and your guest will wear to this formal gathering.
            • determine what entertainment would be suitable for your party.

Process:
You will work with your group to complete this project.  Three class periods will be set aside to work on this project.

        1. To begin your search, remember what you have learned in class about life in Ancient Greece.

        2. Using the websites provided, what will you wear to your party, who will you invite, what food will you           include on your menu, and what type of entertainment will you provide your guests?  You are the host, so you will want to look your best. These are special people, so you will want to feed them well and show them you are a successful Greek citizen. When choosing guests, consider those who would be most interesting and exciting.  And to have your guests remember your party for a long time, how will you entertain them? Remember you want to
make your party a success.

        3. Once you have determined your four guests, food list, clothing and entertainment, you have four options as to how to present this project:

            A.  Poster - to illustrate your four guests, to show the forms of entertainment, what you will wear and the
                    food you will serve
            B. Oral presentation - to introduce your four guests or explain your entertainment
            C. Written report - for your guests, food menu, or entertainment.
            D. Visual display - your clothing or entertainment.

        4. You are now ready to begin your research and organizing your information. Have fun but work hard!
