Explore Regional Foods


Introduction:
The United States has seven regions that have developed their own cuisine based upon their origins and characteristics. Lets explore these regions by eating our way across the United States. 

Task:
bulletDefine six regional food areas of the United States.
bulletResearch the characteristics of each region.
bulletDiscover the foods that are popular for each region.
bulletFind recipes that are common to each region.
bulletDevelop a cookbook using the recipes from each region.
bulletDemonstrate and prepare a dish chosen from each region.

Process:
The class will be divided into six teams for this project.  Each team will be assigned one region of the United States to research.  Each team will: Make a list of foods specific to your region .
 
 
bulletMake a list of foods specific to your region.
bulletInvestigate the history of the regional food.
bulletDesign a sample menu of the ethnic foods for the region.
bulletDesign a chapter for the regional cookbook including  history and ethnic recipes.
bulletDemonstrate and prepare recipes.

bulletDemonstration of one recipe

Conclusion:
As a result of this WebQuest,  you discovered the history and types of ethnic foods indigenous to each region of the United States.  You developed a cookbook with sample menus and recipes from each region.  You also learned how to prepare these recipes and sampled cuisine from around the United States.
