Introduction:
After 25 years of fledgling
independence, the United States entered into a period of political, economic,
and trade difficulties with its former "mother country", England and
other European countries.

Task:
Identify the
domestic and Foreign causes that led to the outbreak of hostilities in the War
of 1812. Take the role of a correspondent reporting this war.
You are an analyst of the underlying causes-discuss the causes from one of the
following viewpoints: Military analyst, Political analyst, Trade/commerce
analyst, Social analyst, or Foreign affairs analyst. Prepare a note-type
outline of your report for a reference.

Process:
Use this "WebQuest", the
internet, class text, and other library sources to research and examine the
possible issues, incidents, events, and personalities related to the beginnings
of the War of 1812 (1812-1815)

Evaluation:
Your group will be expected to identify, discuss, explain
and relate the important background causes to the War of 1812. You
will need to complete a worksheet or other written document showing your
knowledge of the causes of the War of 1812. After
exploring this WebQuest, you and your group must be able to answer
questions by selecting the correct responses from a matching list,
identifying key people, events and ideas, and locating key sites on a map,
on multiple guess questions and relate your views to the class orally. |

Conclusion:
The War of 1812 is sometimes referred to as the second war for American
Independence. What information did you find in your examination of the
causes of this war that might lead you to this conclusion?
