Community Help

The Welcome Wagon

Grade: Kindergarten
Subject: Our Town Lake Zurich
Curricular Goal: Social Studies #1, #3, #6 and Reading #6

Introduction:  The Lake Zurich Welcome Wagon needs your help to introduce a new family in your neighborhood to the Lake Zurich community helpers.

Task:  Your job is to: 1) research various community helpers 2) create a book with community helper sections 3) create a map of important community locations

Process: To accomplish these tasks you will be: 1) working in a whole group connecting to community helper links 2) discuss each of the community helpers 3) break into small groups 4) draw pictures of our community helpers 5) put pages together to create book 6) create a map of important community locations as book cover

Conclusion: Now that  you have learned about  community helpers you can teach your family and friends about the different community helpers in Lake Zurich.  What can you do to help others learn about community helpers?
