Subject: Social Studies
Curricular Goal: The students will be able to identify the state and country they
live in, as well as symbols of their country.
Introduction:
Learning about where you live is an exciting adventure! It will be your quest to
name and locate the country and state you live in and identify the symbols of our country.

Task:
After reading the book Me On The Map, work with your partner to discover the
following:
 | Locate the United States |
 | Locate Illinois |
 | Name some symbols of the United States |
The final product will be individual collages of what we've learned on our WebQuest.

Process:
1. Read Me On The Map with your partner.
2. With your partner put together the puzzle of the United States. When
finished, point out Illinois.
3. Look at all of the books and posters about the symbols (Mount Rushmore, the U.S.
flag, the Statue of Library, the bald eagle, and the president).
Draw a picture of two of them, add them to your collage.
4. Using an Ellison of Illinois and a map of the U.S.A., play Pin The State On The
Country.
5. Use the world map. Locate the U.S.A. Use the mini-map with the
U.S.A., Canada and Mexico.
Color the U.S.A. your favorite color, cut it out, and glue it on
your collage.
6. On the computer, go to www.whitehouse.gov
and learn about the White House. When finished, cut out the picture of the White
House and glue it on
your collage.
7. As a class, label all of the symbols on your collage.

The teacher will evaluate students' work habits
 | cooperation |
 | participation |
 | stay on task |

Conclusion:
